BLACK JACK THE PLAY - Everyone plays against the dealer, who starts the game by dealing each player two cards and himself one card up and one card down. CARD COUNT - Tens, Jacks, Queens and Kings count as 10 each. Aces count as 1 or 11, as you choose. All other cards 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 count by face values. THE GAME - The object of the game is to draw cards that add up to 21 or as close as possible without going over 21, or "Bust." STAND OR HIT - After looking at your hand, you can either "Stand" (draw no more cards) or you can signal the dealer to "Hit" (give you additional cards) until you think your hand is closer to 21 than the dealer's. If your card total is nearer to 21 than the dealer's, you win. If it is less than the dealer's total, you lose your bet. TIES ARE CALLED PUSHES - No one wins on a Push. DEALER RULES - The dealer must Hit if his card count totals 16 or less. The dealer must stand if his card count totals 17 or more. Dealers must Hit "Soft" 17. A Soft 17 is a total of 17 which includes 1 or more Aces where the hand can also be counted as a total of 7. SPLITTING PAIRS - If the first two cards are a pair (two 4s, two 9s, etc.), you may split the pair into two separate hands. You do this by placing the same amount as your original bet on each hand and playing each hand separately. Aces may be split, with the player receiving only one card face down on each Ace. DOUBLING DOWN - You may "Double Down" (double your bet) on the first two cards dealt to you. However, you may only draw one card as you Hit. INSURANCE - If the dealer's up card is an Ace, the player may take an insurance bet against the dealer having a blackjack. This bet pays 2 to 1.
